1) Can you briefly describe your “Think Like Your Dog” training philosophy?
Mary Ellen Walsh pioneered the “Think Like Your Dog” training philosophy based on positive reinforcement and her decades of professional experience. She addresses real life situations with proven, non-intimidating methods... her techniques are always positive and never harmful or threatening to your pet.
2) How can some dog trainers advertise “immediate results”?
There are many amateurs out there who promise “quick fixes” by simply imposing violent shock collars, intimidating fear tactics, or physical manhandling. Be very leery…this is NOT dog training. Hurtful techniques will harm your relationship with you dog, and can cause serious, life-long behavior ramifications. 3) When you say “positive reinforcement”, do mean you give the dog treats?

No two dogs are the same, but depending on your dog, most common behavior issues can be successfully overcome in as few as 2 customized visits. During your initial consultation, Mary Ellen evaluates your dog’s temperament and determines the best training technique for the fastest results. 5) My puppy is only 9 weeks old, is she too young for training?
Our in-home private training is perfect for young puppies. Since puppies (8 – 12 weeks) are not yet not completely vaccinated, they do not have to leave her home and compromise their fragile immune systems. Mary Ellen gives them the proper foundation they need and specifically gears her training towards their limited attention span and high energy level. Quickly, your puppy will learn how to be a well mannered member of your family. (see video demo)
6) My dog is 5 years old, is he too old for training?
No … your dog is never too old to learn (that’s just an old wives tale …you can’t teach a dog new tricks). Mary Ellen has successfully trained dogs as old as 12! Many times, senior dogs will develop bad habits, separation anxiety, or phobias due to life style changes ... such as a divorce, death in the family, moving, new baby, introducing a new dog into the home, and other stress factors.
